New FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup trophy unveiled

MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – The winner of the 2018 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup in Minsk will get a new trophy, the Belarusian Basketball Federation told BelTA.

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) will present the best team with a trophy that celebrates talent, energy, and emotions of future stars. The trophy looks like an abstractly and geometrically shaped rock. According to the organizers, players are the diamonds in the rough whose raw talents are gradually chiseled away by the competitions and slowly transform them into world class athletes.

A new similar trophy will be presented to the winner of the FIBA U17 Men's Basketball World Cup which is due to take place in Rosario and Santa Fe, Argentina, from 30 June to 8 July.

The re-design of the U17 trophies is another step in the process of enhancing the brand and position of FIBA's competitions which began last year with the revamping of the FIBA Basketball World Cup and Continental Cups trophies.

The 2018 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup will take place in Minsk on 21-29 July. Taking part in the tournament will be 16 countries: Mali, Angola, the United States, Canada, Argentina, Colombia, China, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Belarus, France, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, and Spain. The matches will be hosted at the Minsk Palace of Sports and Falcon Arena.
