Minsk to host test archery tournament in May in run-up to 2nd European Games

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – A test tournament for archers will take place in the sport and recreation complex Olympic in Minsk on 2-5 May in the run-up to the 2nd European Games, the press service of the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry told BelTA.

A conference to discuss the readiness of the sport facility for the forthcoming competitions took place in the sport and recreation complex Olympic on 17 January. The conference was chaired by Sports and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk and Minsk European Games Organizing Committee (MEGOC) CEO George Katulin. Participants of the conference discussed access to the facility during the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019, the security of participants and viewers, the creation of temporary infrastructure, catering needs, medical services, volunteer work, and television broadcasting.

The test archery competition will become part of a Belarusian championship. This May athletes will be able to evaluate the infrastructure and reveal what problems have yet to be addressed before the 2nd European Games begin. An archery tournament as part of the games is scheduled for 21-28 June. Winners will be able to participate in the next Olympic Games in Tokyo later on.

During the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 the sport and recreation complex Olympic will also host a beach soccer tournament on 25-29 June. A test beach soccer competition took place in Minsk in August 2018. The event to be held in Minsk in June 2019 will gather teams from Belarus, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Russia, Switzerland, Ukraine, and Romania, who will compete for one set of awards.

Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 199 medal events in 15 sports. Competitions in nine sports will serve as qualifiers for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
