Minsk hosts FIBA Europe instructional camp for girls

MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) – Junior Belarusian basketball players are taking part in the camp as part of the FIBA Europe program to women's and girls' basketball across Europe, BelTA learned.

Renowned Serbian basketball expert Zlatan Presic is the head coach at the ongoing large-scale event. The camp for 12-13-year-old girls is running at the National State School of Olympic Reserve. The young players' coaches from all over the country have also come to Minsk to take part in the camp. Natalia Trofimova, the head coach of the Belarusian national women's team, wished the aspiring basketball players productive training and emphasized that only those who train hard make it to the national team.

The camp includes theoretical and practical classes ans also the screenings of basketball-themed movies, among which are the “Women and Sport” series and “Belarusian basketball. Seconds and years”. During their stay in Minsk the young players and their coaches have visited the Olympic museum at the National Olympic Committee of Belarus. The event will wrap up with the basketball skills competition on 15 January to determine the best and the most talented basketball players in the U12 category.

“The Belarusian Basketball Federation has decided to carry out some strategic projects aimed at involving kids in playing basketball and building the talent-pool in this popular sport,” remarked Anastasia Marinina, the secretary general and the executive director of the Belarusian Basketball Federation. She revealed that the FIBA Europe Her World, Her Rules program kicked off in the spring 2019 and is aimed at promoting women's and girls' basketball across Europe. A special seminar for aspiring basketball referees was held in Minsk in November 2019 in the framework of this program. This large-scale continental project with a funding of €1 million will run through 2021.
