MOGILEV, 31 May (BelTA) - After traveling across the local landmarks in Mogilev the Flame of Peace torch relay of the 2nd European Games arrived in the town of Shklov on 31 May, BelTA has learned.
The torch relay was welcomed in the square in front of the community center by representatives of local companies, general public, and young people.
“It is a great honor for our town to welcome the torch of the European Games. The flame is a symbol of peace and sport. Having covered thousands of kilometers, the flame has arrived in Belarus, and today is welcomed in Shklov District. This is the flame of warmth that can warm up and light up people's hearts for new achievements and sports records,” Vice Chairman of the Shklov District Executive Committee Sergei Artamonov said as he addressed the ceremony.
First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Belarusian BRSM Youth Union Dmitry Voronyuk was the first torchbearer in Shklov. He called on residents of his hometown to glorify their native land by achievements in their professional life and victories in sport, to do their utmost for the development and prosperity of the country.
The keepers of the flame lit the torch and passed it to Dmitry Voronyuk.
The torchbearers carried the symbol of the European Games across the town hall, the ice arena and Spartak Paper Factory.
After that the torch relay moved to the agro-town of Alexandria where the flame was taken to the school which the Belarus president attended. In the town of Gorki the torchbearers will visit the Amphitheater cultural and entertainment center, the botanical garden of the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy and the central square where a thematic flash mob will be held.
The torch relay will visit Golubaya Krinitsa (Blue Spring) in Slavgorod District, a well-known natural monument, the Ludchitskaya Vysota war memorial in Bykhov and the Chigirinskoye Water Reservoir. The symbol of the 2nd European Games will spend two days in the city of Bobruisk and Bobruisk District. On 3 June, the flame will be carried through the central streets of the city to Bobruisk Arena. On 4 June, the torchbearers will carry the flame to OAO Krasny Pischevik, Belshina and the Gigant agricultural company in the agro-town of Bolshiye Bortniki.
The torch relay has already traveled through Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast and Vitebsk Oblast. After Mogilev Oblast the torch relay of the 2nd European Games will head for Gomel Oblast.
The 2nd European Games will be held in Minsk on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 200 medal events in 15 sports.
