Minsk 2019: Belarusian wrestler Iryna Kurachkina secures champion title

MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – Belarusian wrestler Iryna Kurachkina won the Women's 57kg gold at the 2nd European Games in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Going through the qualifying round, Iryna Kurachkina reached the semifinal where she defeated Moldova's Anastasia Nichita 8-6. In the final the Belarusian saw off Bulgaria's Mimi Hristova 10-0.

“I wanted to win. It was the coach, the support of viewers and family that helped me win the champion's title. I am happy that my family were able to come and root for me,” Iryna Kurachkina.

As of 28 June Team Belarus won two medals in freestyle wrestling: Ali Shabanau (86kg) clinched silver and Aliaksandr Hushtyn (97kg) bronze.

The freestyle wrestling tournament at the 2nd European Games in Minsk will end on 30 June. It features 288 athletes who are competing in 18 medal events.
