MAZ-SPORTavto's Vyazovich 4th at Dakar 2019 Stage 4

MINSK, 11 January (BelTA) - Sergei Vyazovich's crew of Belarus' MAZ-SPORTavto team completed Stage 4 in 4th, BelTA learned from the press service of Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ trademark).

Stage 4 running from Arequipa to Tacna was 405km long.

Starting from the 20th position Sergei Vyazovich finished 4th clocking 4 hours 23 minutes, trailing 13 minutes behind the stage winner Andrei Karginov from KAMAZ-Master. Sergei Vyazovich's crew is 17th overall, 5 hours 30 minutes behind the race leader Russia's Eduard Nikolaev.

“The Special Stage was accident-free. We just stopped at Alexei Vishnevsky's crew who were having problems with the turbine to see if we could help. The guys handled the problem themselves. No help was needed. We started the stage at the tail and overtook many crews, probably setting our personal best on this front. The rivals were moving slower along the route. All went well, the luck was on our side again,” Sergei Vyazovich said.

Alexander Vasilevsky crossed the finish line in 12th clocking 4 hours 46 minutes. His crew is 11th overall, lagging 2 hours 55.

Aleksei Vishnevsky finished 14th due to technical difficulties, with the time of 5 hours 4 minutes, lagging 54 minutes behind the race leader. His crew is in the top ten overall, 2 hours 42 minutes behind the winning time.

Dakar 2019 Stage 5 will run between between Moquegua – Arequipa The route is 431km long, the Special is 345km.

The 2019 Dakar race is run solely in Peru over a total of 5,000 kilometers and 11 days. More than half of the route runs through sandy roads with huge dunes and other obstacles.
