Marzalyuk clinches bronze at Individual World Cup in Serbia

MINSK, 17 December (BelTA) – Vasilisa Marzalyuk of Belarus (76kg) secured a bronze medal at the Individual World Cup in Belgrade, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian defeated France's Pauline Denise Lecarpentier in the repechage to face Rio 2016 Olympic champion Erica Elizabeth Wiebe for bronze and beat her 3-1.

Belarus' Hanna Sadchanka finished fifth, losing in the bronze medal bout against Ukraine's Alina Berezhna Stadnik-Makhinya.

Freestyle wrestlers launched competitions at the Individual World Cup on 17 December. Three Belarusian athletes – Azamat Nurikau (74kg), Arkady Pogosyan (86kg), and Dzianis Framiankov (125kg) will compete for bronze medals. Vladislav Andreev (57kg) will go through repechage.

Earlier at the Individual World Cup which is held instead of the World Championships, gold medals were won by Kirill Maskevich in Greco-Roman wrestling and Iryna Kurachkina in the women's wrestling. Bronze medals were claimed by Maksim Kazharski, Soslan Daurov and Radik Kuliyev in the Greco-Roman wrestling and Zalina Sidakova in the women's wrestling.
