Maksim Varabei wins silver at Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk

KRASNOYARSK, 11 March (BelTA) – Maksim Varabei of Belarus claimed silver in the Men Mass Start at the 29th Winter Universiade which is underway in Russia's Krasnoyarsk on 2-12 March, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian covered the 15K distance in 40:54.1. Two penalties in the final shooting deprived him from securing a gold medal.

Espen Uldal of Norway clinched gold in 40:18.7. Bronze went to Czech Adam Vaclavik (41:15.2).

In the Women Mass Start, Anna Musatova of Belarus finished 10th (46:57.9), with four penalties.

Maksim Varabei's silver is Belarus' third medal at the ongoing Winter Universiade. Belarusian athletes also won two gold medals in the Aerials.

The Universiade which is running from 2 to 12 March will have 76 medal events in 11 sports: biathlon, Alpine skiing, curling, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, ski orienteering, figure skating, freestyle, ice hockey, bandy and short track speed skating. Competing in the sport forum are about 3,000 athletes from more than 50 countries.
