NUCLEAR POWER IN BELARUS AND WORLDWIDE
MINSK, 1 September (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 351 Vera Lapko saw off world number 123 Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland 1-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 in the US Open first round, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next play Kazakhstan's world number 35 Yulia Putintseva.
Belarus' world number 106 Aliaksandra Sasnovich defeated world number 129 Francesca Di Lorenzo of the United States 2-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-0 to reach the US Open second round. The Belarusian will next take on world number 15 Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic.
World number 11 Aryna Sabalenka will face France's world number 118 Oceane Dodin in round one. Former world number one Victoria Azarenka, currently ranked 59, will open against Austria's number 139 Barbara Haas. World number 129 Olga Govortsova will play Russia's world number 123 Vitalia Diatchenko.
In the men's event world number 72 Egor Gerasimov dismissed Serbia's world number 24 Dusan Lajovic in the opening round, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. The Belarusian will next play Australia's world number 63 Jordan Thompson.
The US Open will take place in New York on 31 August-13 September.
