Journalists from 52 countries to cover 2nd European Games in Minsk

MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – Journalists from 52 countries will cover the 2nd European Games in Minsk, Chairwoman of the Belarusian Sports Press Association Anastasia Marinina said at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the European Union of Sports Press (AIPS Europe) in Budapest, BelTA has learned.

The head of the Belarusian Sports Press Association showcased the presentations prepared by specialists of the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee. “The participants of the forum got familiar with the organization of the tournament in Minsk. As of today, more than 1,000 applications have been received from 52 countries and 379 agencies that represent printed sources, TV and radio organizations (not copyright holders). Almost one third is female journalists. Besides, more than 1,300 representatives of TV companies will work in Minsk to broadcast the European Games competitions in more than 120 countries,” Anastasia Marinina said.

The Belarusian capital will welcome representatives of mass media from across Europe, and also Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, India, Mongolia, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the United States.

“European journalists first saw Minsk and its sports infrastructure in 2015 when the Belarusian capital hosted the AIPS Europe Congress under the aegis of the National Olympic Committee. Back then, all the participants were impressed the attention paid to sport in the country from the government. Our counterparts will come to us once again. This time they will become participants of the big multi-sport forum, the 2nd European Games,” Anastasia Marinina said.

The meeting of the AIPS Europe Executive Committee included an international conference on the role of women in sport and sports press. The guest of honor at the conference was Donna de Varona (the United States), a two-time Olympic champion, a journalist, a TV host, a producer of sports TV programs, a holder of Emmy and Gracie awards, a member of the International Olympic Committee's Women in Sport Commission.
