MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) – Ilya Ivashka (world number 134) will open the 2020 Davis Cup Belarus vs Germany qualifier against Jan-Lennard Struff (world number 34) at Castello Arena in Dusseldorf on 6 March, BelTA has learned.
Rubber 2 will feature Egor Gerasimov (68) and Philipp Kohlschreiber (73).
Two singles rubbers will be held on 7 March: Egor Gerasimov v Jan-Lennard Struff and Ilya Ivashka v Philipp Kohlschreiber. The doubles rubber will see Andrei Vasilevski and Egor Gerasimov of Belarus vs Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies of Germany.
The captains of the teams are eligible to make replacements on competition day 2.
Belarus and Germany faced each other just once in the Davis Cup campaign, with Belarus winning 3-2 in the world group playoff in September 2003. Belarus go 45th in the ITF Davis Cup Nations Ranking, Germany is 12th.
The other qualifiers will feature Australia v Brazil, Croatia v India, Slovakia v Czech Republic, Hungary v Belgium, Italy v Republic of Korea, Austria v Uruguay, Colombia v Argentina, Japan v Ecuador, USA v Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan v Netherlands, Sweden v Chile.
The winners will advance to the Davis Cup final stage scheduled to take place in Madrid on 23-29 November. Spain will also host the matches of the host, the UK, Canada, France, Serbia and Russia.
