Ilya Shimanovich wins second silver in Hangzhou

MINSK, 17 December (BelTA) - Ilya Shimanovich of Belarus clinched another silver at the 14th 2018 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Hangzhou, China, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian clocked 25.77 seconds in the Men's 50m breaststroke to finish second. Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa claimed gold in 25.41. Bronze went to Brazil's Felipe Lima (25.80).

In the Men 4x100m freestyle relay the Belarusian team of Evgeny Tsurkin, Grigory Pekarsky, Viktor Staselovich and Artyom Machekin set Belarus' new record to finish 8th in 3:10.59. Belarus also touched in sixth in the Men's 4x50m medley (1:32.42).

In the medal standings Belarus place 14th with two silver medals. The United States topped the table with 16 gold, 15 silver and four bronze medals. Russia finished second with 6 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals. Third was Hungary (four gold and one silver medals).

The FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) are a biennial event. This year, taking part in the competitions were more than 900 athletes from 178 countries. The world's sport forum will feature 46 medal events.
