MINSK, 15 January (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 84 Ilya Ivashka beat Tunisia's world number 43 Malek Jaziri to reach the second round of the Australian Open, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian lost the first set 4-6. Then he won two sets 7-6 (8-6) and 6-1. In the fourth set he led 4-0 when his opponent had to withdraw.
Ilya Ivashka will next play either Spain's world number 23 Pablo Carreno Busta or Italy's world number 163 Luca Vanni.
Two-time Australian Open winner Victoria Azarenka (World No.53) of Belarus will play Laura Siegemund (World No.110) of Germany on 15 January.
