IBU announces 2020/21 World Cup competition calendar

MINSK, 20 April (BelTA) - The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has announced its World Cup calendar for the upcoming season, BelTA learned from the IBU website.

The BMW IBU World Cup will open its new season in Kontiolahti, Finland on 28-29 November 2020.

The competitions will continue in Oestersund, Sweden on 3-6 December. The other meetings are slated to take place in Hochfilzen, Austria on 11-13 December, Annecy, France on 17-20 December, Oberhof, Germany on 7-10 January, Ruhpolding, Germany on 13-17 January, Antholz, Italy on 21-24 January. The BMW IBU World Cup meeting in Beijing, China will take place from 26 February to 1 March. It will be a Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics test event. The BMW IBU World Cup season will wrap up with two more meetings in Nove Mesto, the Czech Republic on 11-14 March and in Oslo, Norway on 18-21 March. A new format, the Super Sprint, will celebrate its debut on this World Cup stage.

The highlight of the season, the IBU World Championships Biathlon in Pokljuka, Slovenia will take place on 10-21 February 2021.

The Men's World Cup Total Score 2020 was topped by Norway's Johannes Boe, who surpassed Martin Fourcade and Quentin Fillot Maillet from France. Italy's Dorthea Wierer topped the Women's World Cup Total Score 2020. The Top Three also included Norway's Tiril Eckhoff and Denise Herrmann of Germany.

Norway won the Men's Nations Cup Score 2020 with the total of 8,192 points. Second was France (7,885). Germany placed third (7,211). Belarus ranked tenth with 5,551 points. Thus, next season Belarus will have the right to field seven athletes in competitions and five athletes in sprints and individual races. The Women's Nations Cup Score 2020 was topped by Norway (7,865 points). Second was Germany (7,202). France placed third (7,058). Belarus ranked 12th with 5,047 points.
