Henadz Laptseu wins European Weightlifting Championships bronze

MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – Henadz Laptseu of Belarus won a bronze medal in the snatch at the European Weightlifting Championships, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian scored 132kg in the snatch and 154 kg in the clean and jerk to combine a total of 286 kg.

Bulgaria's Stilyan Grozdev won the 61kg event scoring a total of 296kg (136kg+160kg). Silver went to Shota Mishvelidze of Georgia, with the total of 290kg (135kg+155kg). Bronze was collected by Turkey's Herdi Hardal – 287kg (130kg+157kg).

Belarus' Dzmitry Ivanou will compete in the 67kg event. Belarusian athletes Liubov Demidovets and Alina Shchepanova will perform in the women's 71kg event.

The European Weightlifting Championships were initially scheduled for April 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic the competitions were postponed three times.

This is the last big European weightlifting tournament ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.
