Griffons victorious in opening match of Golden Puck junior tournament in Minsk

MINSK, 3 January (BelTA) - Griffons beat Metallurg Zhlobin 12:3 at the start of the final of the Golden Puck national junior ice hockey tournament in Division A in the 14-16 age group, BelTA has learned.

The defending champion started on a confident note scoring six goals in the first period. The young hockey players demonstrated good skills and fewer errors in defense in the remaining two periods. Nikolai Lukashenko scored two goals and made one assist.

Other match results: Prinemanskiye Yastreby (Grodno Oblast) 3:2 Shakhtyor (Minsk Oblast), Sokol (Mogilev Oblast) 9:6 Partizan Minsk, Severnaya Stolitsa (Vitebsk Oblast) 2:10 Atlant (Brest Oblast).

The second round on 4 January will feature Metallurg vs Prinemanskiye Yastreby, Griffons vs Shakhtyor in Group A; Partizan vs Atlant, Severnaya Stolitsa vs Sokol in Group B. The winners of the groups will advance to the final to be played on 7 January.

The young players will also attend the master classes from famous ice hockey players Dainius Zubrus, Andrei Nikolishin, Dmitri Khristich, Ivan Novoseltsev.

They will also attend the matches of the Christmas Amateur Ice Hockey Tournament for the Prize of the President of Belarus and the KHL games of HC Dinamo Minsk vs Saint Petersburg SKA (4 January) and CSKA Moscow (6 January). They will also visit the Museum of the Great Patriotic War.
