MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 142 Olga Govortsova has advanced into the second round of the 2020 Abierto GNP Seguros in Monterrey, BelTA has learned.
In the opener the Belarusian needed an hour and 40 minutes to fight through world number 131 Caroline Dolehide of the United States 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. Olga Govortsova will next play either Ukraine's world number 7 Elina Svitolina or world number 88 Danka Kovinic of Montenegro. Olga Govortsova came through two qualifying matches to reach the main draw.
Belarus' world number 56 Victoria Azarenka will open her 2020 Abierto GNP Seguros campaign against Slovenia's world number 71 Tamara Zidansek on 4 March. Due to family issues, Victoria Azarenka has not played since August 2019.
In the Lyon Open first round Belarus' world number 378 Vera Lapko will face Italy's world number 94 Camila Giorgi. In the round of Last 16 Vera Lapko and her doubles partner Lidziya Marozava of Belarus will take on Brazil's Laura Pigossi and Rosalie Van Der Hoek of the Netherlands.
The competitions in Monterrey and Lyon will be over on 8 March.
