MINSK, 12 August (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 135 has reached the round of Last 16 at the Top Seed Open presented by Bluegrass Orthopaedics in Lexington, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian beat Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States (World No.358) 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 in an hour and 35 minutes. Olga Govortsova, who came through the qualifying rounds, will next take on world number 39 Ons Jabeur of Tunisia.
Earlier, Belarus' world number 11 Aryna Sabalenka defeated U.S. world number 80 Madison Brengle 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 in the opener. The Belarusian will next play world number 53 Cori Gauff of the United States.
Former world number one Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, currently ranked 58 lost to U.S. world number 67 Venus Williams 3-6, 2-6 in the opening match. Venus Williams will face her sister Serena Williams (World No.9) in the round of Last 16.
The tournament in Lexington will be over on 16 August.
