MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) - The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) nominated five new members of the IOC at a virtual meeting on 20 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus.

The nominations are: former Croatia president Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, Maria de la Caridad Colon Ruenes of Cuba, Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia, Battushig Batbold of Mongolia, Sebastian Coe, President of World Athletics, of the UK. The nominations will be submitted to the IOC session, which will be held virtually on 17 July 2020. In addition, the IOC Executive Board agreed to submit to the session the extension of the term of IOC Member Zaiqing Yu (People's Republic of China) from the end of 2021 to the end of 2025, due to the important role that he plays in Chinese sport and society. Next year he will turn 70, which is the age limit for IOC membership. Thus, after the session, the number of IOC members will grow to 105.

The IOC Executive Board also agreed during a virtual meeting today to maintain the previously set deadline of December 2020 to confirm the event program and athlete quotas for the Olympic Games Paris 2024. The overall Paris 2024 athlete quota will be reduced to 10,500 from Tokyo's 11,000 quota. The IOC is also set to achieve gender equal participation across the Olympic Games at event and discipline level where possible.
