Finland beat UAE Team to win bronze at Christmas ice hockey tournament in Minsk

MINSK, 7 January (BelTA) – Finland have upset UAE Team with a 6:3 win in the bronze medal game at the 15th edition of the Christmas amateur ice hockey tournament for the prize of the President of Belarus. It was the seventh time Finland clinched bronze at this tournament, BelTA has learned.

Finland went to the locker room with a 2:1 lead; however, in the second period UAE Team seized momentum and evened up the match 2:2. In the decisive third period the Arab team broke the rules and Suomi managed to cash in. Jesse Niinimaki scored after UAE Team missed a counterattack. The match ended with a 6:3 win for Finland.

That was the seventh bronze medal for Finland in the Christmas amateur ice hockey tournament. The Finnish team had also won silver medals in 2016 and 2017.

The final match of the 15th edition of the Christmas amateur ice hockey tournament will take place on 7 January at 18:00. The Belarus president team will take on Team Russia.
