Fans credited for much of Belarusian C2 success

MINSK, 27 June (BelTA) – We credit fans for much of our success, Belarusian Volha Klimava and Nadzeya Makarchanka, the Women's C2 500m silver medalists, told BelTA after the flower ceremony at the regatta course in Zaslavl on 27 June.

“We have not participated much in international competitions this season. We focused more on training and this approach proved its worth. The Hungarian athletes who finished first are very strong. They are well known in our sport and we are happy the way the race ended. We still have work to do before the world championships. Today's race featured several new teams whom we need to study. Competition was tough and if it were not for the great support from fans on the regatta course the result might have been different. I credit fans for half of this silver medal. People from Bobruisk, Mozyr, and Khoiniki came to root for us. We could not have let them down,” Nadzeya Makarchanka said.

“The previous two days were very different for racing. Today it is windy and wavy but we did well. It is important, and we hope that the silver medal of the 2nd European Games will be a a stepping stone towards even greater steps,” Volha Klimava said.

The Hungarian duo of Virag Balla and Kincso Takacs claimed the champion title in 2:11.129. Belarus clocked 2:12.294 to place second. Bronze went to Russia's Olesia Romasenko and Kseniia Kurach (2:14.194).
