EURO 2020 qualifiers: Belarus lose to Northern Ireland

MINSK, 25 March (BelTA) – Belarus has suffered the second loss in the ongoing UEFA EURO 2020 qualifiers, BelTA has learned.

Belarus lost 1-2 to Northern Ireland. The home side took the lead via Jonny Evans' header on the half-hour. Shortly afterwards Igor Stasevich deflected Alexander Hleb's strike to level off 1-1. However, substitute Josh Magennis turned in Paddy McNair's 87th-minute cross to move Northern Ireland three points clear.

Northern Ireland tops the table with two wins in two fixtures. The team beat Estonia 2-0 in the opener.

Belarus' first game was a 0-4 defeat to the Netherlands.

Elsewhere, Germany edged the Netherlands 3-2.

Group C standings are as follows: Northern Ireland – 6 points (2 games played), Germany – 3 (2), the Netherlands – 3 (2), Estonia – 0 (1), Belarus – 0 (2).

Belarus will next play Germany on 8 June.
