Estonia's Norman Vahtra wins Grand Prix Minsk 2019

MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) – Representative of the Estonian national cycling team Norman Vahtra won the international road cycling competition Grand Prix Minsk 2019 on 12 May, BelTA has learned.

Silver went to his fellow Estonian Martin Laas. Third was Georgios Buglas from China's NCL. Nikolai Shumov of the Minsk Cycling Club was one of the best performing Belarusians. Belarusian cyclists made it to the top ten of the competitions.

Belarus' Yauheni Karaliok, a representative of the Belarusian national team, celebrated the victory at the Minsk Cup on 11 May.

Nikolai Shumov outrode Poland's Marek Rutkiewicz to win the last year's edition. Belarus' Sergei Popok won the Grand Prix Minsk twice.

On 12 May, the Grand Prix Minsk 2019 kicked off in Oktyabrskaya Square in Minsk to cover 150km through the most picturesque places of the Belarusian capital. The organizers also included a block road in the race. Athletes did well on it.

The Grand Prix Minsk 2019 was a test competition ahead of the road cycling competitions scheduled as part of the 2nd European Games. The race followed the exact route of the forthcoming competitions in June.

The cycling week in the Belarusian capital will continue on 16-19 May with the international track cycling competitions Grand Prix Minsk featuring 200 cyclists. On 18 May, Minsk will host the cycling festival Viva Rovar for the fifth time.
