Egor Gerasimov advances to 2020 Maharashtra Open quarterfinal

MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 90 Egor Gerasimov has secured a quarterfinal spot at the 2020 Maharashtra Open in India, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian battled through world number 148 Nikola Molojevic of Serbia 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the round of Last 16 on 6 February. In the opener Egor Gerasimov defeated Italy's world number 115 Paolo Lorenzi 6-2, 6-3. He will next face world number 88 Kwon Soon-woo of the Republic of Korea for a place in the semifinal.

In another quarterfinal match scheduled for 7 February Belarus' world number 152 Ilya Ivashka will play Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic (World No.107).

Belarus' Andrei Vasilevski and Jonathan Erlich of Israel defeated the Italian duo of Paolo Lorenzi and Stefano Travaglia 5-7, 6-1, 10-8 to reach the semifinal of the men's doubles event.

The 2020 Maharashtra Open, with the prize pot of $546,000, will finish on 9 February.
