Dream Team holds first training session ahead of Minsk Half Marathon

MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) - The Dream Team held its first training session ahead of the Minsk Half Marathon on 17 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Athletics Federation.

“The team consists of Belarusian athletes, businessmen, officials and other famous people who find time for running, sports and a healthy lifestyle in their busy schedule. This year, star runners will train at the National Olympic Stadium Dinamo,” the press service said. Chairman of the Belarusian Athletics Federation Vadim Devyatovsky also took part in the practice.

The practice was led by Katsiaryna Karneyenka, silver medalist of the European Cross Country Championships in the 4x1.5 km mixed relay and many-time champion of Belarus in the 1500m, 3000m and 5000m, as well as Volha Nemahai, the silver and bronze medalist of the continental forums in the 4x1.5 km cross country mixed relay and national champion in the 800m and 1500m events.

The Minsk Half Marathon with its 5.5km, 10.55km and 21.097km races will take place on 13 September. Applications can be submitted on the website of the Minsk Half Marathon. Online registration is open through 12 September or until the maximum number of participants is reached.

The motto of the Minsk Half Marathon 2020 is Let's Run Together! It is planned that 42,000 people will take part in the races. The press service of the Belarusian Athletics Federation noted that due to the coronavirus pandemic there may be fewer people, but the goal set by the organizers remains.

In 2019 the Minsk Half Marathon was held for the fifth time. It featured 40,000 people from 68 countries. Nina Savina of Belarus won the 21.1km race of the Minsk Half Marathon 2019. The men's event was won by Eritrea's Afewerki Berhane. The Minsk Half Marathon has been assigned the IAAF Silver Label. The prize pot of the competitions made up $60,000.
