Dinamo Stadium in Minsk among top ten stadiums 2018

MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – The renovated Dinamo Stadium in Minsk has made it to the top ten stadiums 2018, BelTA learned from the website stadiumdb.com which conducted the voting.

Apart from Minsk Dinamo Stadium, taking part in the vote for the Stadium of the Year 2018 were 26 arenas from the United States, Australia, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Turkey, Iran, Iraq and China. Representatives of 111 countries took part in the voting. All in all 35,300 votes were cast. Volgograd Arena has been named the winner of the popular vote. The top ten, according to fans, includes seven stadiums from Russia, and also Hungary, Iran and Belarus (one each).

The professional jury of architects also voted to put the stadium in Miskolc, Hungary first. According to the jury, the top ten included another Hungarian stadium, two arenas in China, four stadiums in Russia, Turkey and Australia (one each).

Dinamo Stadium was built in 1934 and was reconstructed several times later. The recent renovations were launched in 2012 and completed in 2018. The seating capacity of the stadium is 22,246. The arena can host the most prestigious international athletics and football competitions. In June 2019 the Minsk Dinamo Stadium will play host to the opening and closing ceremonies, and also the athletics tournament of the 2nd European Games 2019. This big multi-sport forum will run from 21 to 30 June.
