MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – Ice hockey players from the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) who play for the national teams of their countries will not be considered foreign players in the Russian ice hockey championships, BelTA learned from the website of the Russian Ministry of Sport.
Until now, this regulation applied only to Belarusian players in Russian ice hockey championships. Apart from ice hockey, EAEU athletes will gain an equal status with Russians in handball, water polo and ball hockey.
Nevertheless, the teams participating in the Russian U21 ice hockey championship shall not have the right to sign foreign players. The Russian Supreme Hockey League clubs is facing a cap of four foreign players. However, this regulation does not apply to goaltenders.
