MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – Minsk is ready for the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019, Chairman of the Coordination Commission of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) for Minsk 2019 Spyros Capralos said as he took part in the EOC seminar in Vienna, BelTA has learned.

He said that he is sure that the games in Minsk will be a huge success. “There has been a lot of work done in Minsk so that we reach the second edition of the European Games, and I would like to congratulate the entire team and I am sure that the Games will be a big success,” said Spyros Capralos. “All venues are ready and operational and are waiting for athletes.”

He also said that non-European countries have shown interest in the European Games. “Some 43 European countries have bought the right to broadcast the sports event, another seven will show daily highlights of the games. The event will also be broadcast in 83 more countries around the world. The European Games enjoy such popularity because they will feature leading European athletes, and we are just a year ahead of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The EOC is closely cooperating with the Olympic Channel operated by the International Olympic Committee to broadcast the event to even more countries,” Spyros Capralos said.

Deputy CEO of the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee Anatoly Kotov announced an upcoming presentation of the European Games medals in Mir Castle on 21 May. He also noted that tickets for the events of the games are selling well. According to Anatoly Kotov, karate, gymnastics, beach soccer, and track and field athletics tickets are enjoying the highest demand.

The participants of the EOC seminar in Vienna announced Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, as the host of the 16th European Youth Olympic Festival and named 14-year-old Russia's skater Alexandra Trusova best European young winter athlete. The seminar also discussed reports on preparations for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Beijing 2022, and Paris 2024, as well as an update from the World Anti-Doping Agency. Witold Banka from Poland may become the new head of the agency in autumn.
