Brest to host Mad Wave Challenge swimming competition

BREST, 30 October (BelTA) – On 3-4 November, Brest will host the first stage of the Mad Wave Challenge international swimming competition for children, BelTA learned from Deputy Director of the Regional Olympic Reserve Center for Water Sports Victoria Astakhova.

Brest will host the competition for the fourth time. This year the Palace of Water Sports will see about 700 young athletes from Belarus, Russia, Poland, Ukraine and Lithuania. Aspiring athletes aged 10 - 14 years will compete in two age groups in the following disciplines: medley swimming, butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle.

“The geography of the Brest stage is expanding. This year we will welcome athletes from Poland. It is very important to have a tough competition, because this way athletes can get good competition experience. The countries that will send their athletes to Brest boast significant achievements in swimming. Therefore, we expect an exciting tournament,” Victoria Astakhova emphasized. Everyone is welcome to attend the competition. The entrance will be free. The events will be broadcast online. Links to them will be available on swim4you.ru.

The official start of the competition will be preceded by a five-day master class by many-time USSR champion Mikhail Zubkov. Apart from that, participants of the tournament will be able to have an excursion around Brest and see its landmarks.

Mad Wave Challenge consists of four stages. The season is traditionally opened in Brest, and then the event moves to Russian cities. Saint Petersburg will host the competition on 26-27 January; the town of Ruza near Moscow on 9-10 March and the final stage will take place in Kazan on 30 April-2 May.
