MINSK, 12 August (BelTA) – Chairman of the Guardianship Council of the Belarusian Wrestling Federation, Belarus Deputy Prime Minister Igor Lyashenko and Deputy Chairman of Belneftekhim Vitaly Milevich met with the champions and medalists of the 2nd European Games in wrestling to commend them for successful performance in the season and to outline the goals for the forthcoming World Wrestling Championships in Nur-Sultan together with the coaching staff, BelTA has learned.
According to Igor Lyashenko, wrestling was one of the most successful sports for Belarus at the 2nd European Games where athletes won seven medals. He wished the Belarusian wrestlers new medals at the World Wrestling Championships in the capital of Kazakhstan in September 2019.
Head of the Belarusian Wrestling Federation, Olympic champion Kamandar Madzhidov thanked the Guardianship Council and also Belneftekhim, Gomeltransneft Druzhba and Mozyr Refinery for support.
The Belarusian Wrestling Federation nurtures young athletes who have shown great results internationally. One of them, Dzmitry Bonko, won gold at the World Cadet Wrestling Championships in Sofia.
At the 2nd European Games Belarus' Iryna Kurachkina (57kg) and Vasilisa Marzaliuk (76kg) won gold medals in the women's wrestling. Ali Shabanau (86kg) clinched silver, while Aliaksandr Hushtyn (97kg) secured bronze. In the Greco Roman wrestling Kiryl Gryshchanka (130kg) took gold, Aliaksandr Hrabovik (97kg) finished second, and Soslan Daurov (67kg) was third.
