Belarusian freestyle skiers hold practice session in Krasnoyarsk

KRASNOYARSK, 1 March (BelTA) –On 1 March, the Belarusian freestyle skiers held the first official practice session in the Sopka multi-functional sport center ahead of the 29th Winter Universiade, BelTA has learned.

Head coach of the Belarusian national freestyle ski team Nikolai Kozeko noted that the athletes are well prepared. “The team are in good spirits and ready to compete. The only downside is soft snow. The organizers will bring dry ice on 2 March and change reagents to improve the situation. In general, though, the sport center meets all international requirements, the slope is good enough for the athletes to reach enough speed,”Nikolai Kozeko said.

BelTA reported earlier that Belarus planned to field 21 athletes for the Universiade in Krasnoyarsk. However, Pavel Dik will not be able to compete in the freestyle skiing event due to an injury.

The first freestyle skiing event in Krasnoyarsk will kick off on 3 March. The athletes will compete in men's and ladies' aerials.

The Universiade on 2-12 March will have 76 medal events in 11 sports: biathlon, Alpine skiing, curling, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, ski orienteering, figure skating, freestyle, ice hockey, bandy and short track speed skating. Competing in the sport forum will be about 3,000 athletes from more than 50 countries.
