The ski competition under the aegis of the International Ski Federation traditionally takes place from the end of December to early January and is a special part of the World Cup. It includes mass starts, pursuits and individual races. The distance can be covered both in free and classic styles.
The final stage of the race includes a steep climb up Val de Femme. This last stage is held in a pursuit format, with competitors starting with the gaps they have in the overall classification, so the first skier to reach the top is the overall winner.
