Belarusian athletes cancel April overseas training camps over coronavirus

MINSK, 23 March (BelTA) – All international training camps planned for Belarusian athletes in April have been canceled amid the COVID-19 outbreak, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Athletics Federation.

"Due to the ongoing coronavirus situation, Belarusian athletes will not take part in training camps abroad in April. Some 20 Belarusian athletes are currently at the training camp in Kislovodsk. They include marathon runner Nastassia Ivanova, sprinters Yan Sloma and Aliaksei Lazarau, and high jumper Maksim Nedasekau. The first group of athletes will come back to Belarus on 26 March, the second one – on 6 April. Belarusians will go into quarantine upon their arrival,” the Belarusian Athletics Federation said.

World Athletics, jointly with the Sport and Tourism Ministry and the Belarusian Athletics Federation, has decided to postpone the IAAF World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships which was due in Minsk on 2-3 May. Three Diamond League meetings have also been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
