Belarus wins 66 medals in summer international competitions in 2019

MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes won 66 medals at the world and European championships of 2019 (summer sports), including 24 in Olympic sports, Belarus' Sport and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk said at a meeting of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus on 19 November, BelTA has learned.

According to the minister, the analysis of the Sport and Tourism Ministry shows that in the world's non-official rankings Belarus is 28th in the quality of medals, 29th in the number of medals and 21st in points for the 1st-8th places. In the CIS, Belarus 5th in the quality and number of medals, and 3rd in points behind Russia and Ukraine.

“We do not take much interest in points. Our intermediate goal is the maximum number of Olympic berths and our ultimate target – Olympic medals. The focus is on the quality of medals which automatically improves the country's position in the world rankings,” Sergei Kovalchuk said.
