Belarus' Vladimir Samsonov earns Olympic berth in table tennis

MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) - Leader of the Belarusian national table tennis team Vladimir Samsonov has qualified for the 32nd Olympic Games in Tokyo, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus.

On 1 June, the International Table Tennis Federation (IITF) published the Olympic qualification ranking according to which the 45-year-old Belarusian athlete ranked 29th, making it possible for him to compete in the Olympic Games in the Japanese capital.

It will be the seventh Olympics in Vladimir Samsonov's career. He achieved his best ever result at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where he placed 4th.

Vladimir Samsonov is the only Belarusian table tennis player who won the right to compete in Tokyo.

The table tennis competition will be held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium from 24 July to 6 August. The singles event will be over on 30 July.
