
MINSK, 27 December (BelTA) – Belarus is set to take part in the 2nd Winter International Sports Games “Children of Asia” in 2023, BelTA learned from the press service of the organizing committee of the tournament.
The decision on the admission of Belarusian athletes was made by the Board of the Children of Asia Games International Committee. Negotiations on the prospects for our team's participation in the games were held at the headquarters of the NOC of Belarus during the working meeting of NOC President Viktor Lukashenko with President of the Children of Asia Games International Committee Vladimir Maksimov on 8 December. Then Viktor Lukashenko pointed out that participation in the tournament would enable young Belarusian athletes to enhance their skills, gain necessary competitive experience, and find new friends. The Belarusian delegation can include up to 70 athletes.
“The Belarusian NOC's application for the participation of Belarusian athletes in the Games was supported for the benefit of the international sports movement,” Secretary General of the Russian Olympic Committee Rodion Plitukhin said. “I am confident that the upcoming competitions will become the embodiment of true Olympic values, and young and ambitious athletes from Belarus, who also miss international tournaments, will add to the tournament not only entertainment, but also competition.”
The 2nd Winter International Sports Games “Children of Asia” will run from 23 February to 5 March 2023 in Kemerovo, Novokuznetsk, Mezhdurechensk and Tashtagolsky Municipal District. It is expected that the Games will feature young athletes from 20 Asian countries, Russian regions, and Belarus. They will compete in ten sports. The competition program includes ski racing, short track, hockey, snowboarding, alpine skiing, figure skating, ski jumping, curling, freestyle and speed skating. The program will also feature exhibition competitions in snow volleyball and cybersports.
