Belarus to bring international sponsors to 2nd European Games

ROME, 8 February (BelTA) – Belarus will attract international sponsors for the 2nd European Games in Minsk, Belarus Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Organizing Committee of the 2nd European Games 2019 Sergei Rumas told reporters during his working trip to Rome on 7 February, BelTA has learned.

President of the European Olympic Committees Janez Kocijancic praised the way Belarus is preparing for the 2nd European Games. “At the same time we discussed one sensitive issue – attracting international sponsors. In line with the contract [with the European Olympic Committees] we were supposed to bring major international sponsors, however we have not made much progress here yet,” Sergei Rumas said.

The parties discussed possible solutions “We have agreed that Belarus will do more to attract sponsors in the premium segments like oil processing, banking and beverages,” the premier noted.

As for the preparations for the competitions at the national level, all the government agencies involved have reached the home stretch in their areas of work. Key issues are handled by the organizing committee.

Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 199 medal events in 15 sports. Competitions in eight sports will serve as qualifiers for the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo. Competitions in badminton, boxing, and judo will be held in the format of European championships.
