Belarus, Russia to sign sport cooperation program

MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) – Minsk will play host to a joint board meeting of the Belarusian Sport and Tourism Ministry and the Russian Ministry of Sport on 11 December. Taking part in the event will be Belarusian Sport and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk and Russian Minister of Sport Pavel Kolobkov, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Sport and Tourism Ministry.

The parties will discuss preparations for the 2nd European Games, which are due to take place in the Belarusian capital in June 2019. Russia will share its experience of organizing the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The parties also intend to consider the organization of the Union State Games for children and young people and discuss matters related to scientific support of training high-class athletes and sports reserves of Belarus and Russia.

The two sides are expected to sign a program of cooperation in physical education and sport within the Union State of Belarus and Russia for 2019-2020. The document includes a set of measures to develop mutually beneficial cooperation in physical education and sport to ensure equal rights for citizens of the two countries to do sport, develop a system to train high-class athletes for international competitions and effective use of physical education and sport facilities. The implementation of the program envisages interaction between physical education and sport government bodies, public and regional sport organizations, sport educational and scientific institutions of the two countries.
