Belarus, Russia ink agreement on cooperation in sport

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry and the Russian Sport Ministry signed an agreement on cooperation in Smolensk on 21 November, BelTA has learned.

The document was signed as a result of the joint session of the boards of the two ministries. The document provides for further advancement of cooperation in sport and physical training, sport education and science in the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

Belarusian Sports and Tourism Minister Alexander Shamko said that sport is part of the government policy in Belarus and Russia. A lot of sport projects are implemented in Russia these days. The number of international tournaments and championships hosted by Belarus has increased considerably in the last few years. The 2019 European Games is a token of Europe's recognition of the development level of competitive sport in Belarus. “Belarus and Russia have a lot in common, including the tasks that we should handle together,” noted Alexander Shamko.

Participants of the joint session of the two ministry boards were made familiar with sport facilities in Smolensk. The facilities had been built as part of the federal program on developing physical training and sport in the Russian Federation in 2006-2015.
