Belarus president team victorious at national ice hockey amateur tournament

MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) – The Belarus president team secured its fourth victory during the 12th national ice hockey amateur tournament for prizes of the Presidential Sport Club. The team beat the Brest Oblast team 9-4 (2-0, 4-1, 3-3) in a game at the new sport facility Olympic Park in Pobeditelei Avenue in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Oleg Antonenko scored in the fourth minute in the first period. Andrei Astashevich sent home another one before the break.

Daniel Corso exploited an opportunity in the second period after a shot by Alexander Lukashenko – 3-0. In the 31st minute the Belarus president team exploited its greater number to their advantage, with Alexander Lukashenko scoring – 4-0. During this period the Brest Oblast team conceded two scores and managed to close the gap after Daniel Corso was suspended. Aleksei Drobysh realized the numeric advantage of the Brest Oblast team.

In the final period the Belarus president team stayed on the offensive, with Oleg Antonenko scoring his second goal of the game.

During the 12th national ice hockey amateur tournament for prizes of the Presidential Sport Club the Belarus president team beat the Minsk Oblast team 6-2 in the first round, beat the Mogilev Oblast team 14-8 later on, and crushed the Vitebsk Oblast team in Chizhovka Arena 15-4 in the third round.

The national tournament represents an important stage in preparing the Belarus president team for the 15th Christmas tournament, which is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 3-7 January 2019.

The best players of the game were Vladimir Tsyplakov (the Belarus president team) and Artem Prikhodko (the Brest Oblast team).

After the game the head of state thanked the referees and presented small souvenirs to them. He also extended Christmas and New Year greetings to ice hockey fans.

The Belarus president team celebrated victory at the tournament nine times: in 2008, 2010-2012, 2014-2018. The team of Gomel Oblast raised the trophy in 2009. The team of Minsk Oblast was the winner in 2013.

The organizers of the tournament are the Presidential Sport Club, the Sports and Tourism Ministry, the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation, and the Minsk City Executive Committee.
