Belarus name squad for 2021 IIHF World Championship in Latvia

MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) – The coaching staff of the Belarusian national ice hockey team named the roster for the 2021 IIHF World Championship which kicks off in Riga on 21 May, BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation.

Mikhail Zakharov named the following players for the forthcoming event in Latvia:

goalies: Aleksei Kolosov (HC Dinamo Minsk, KHL), Konstantin Shostak (HC Severstal, KHL), and Danny Taylor (HC Dinamo Minsk, KHL).

defensemen: Andrei Antonov (HC Yunost Minsk), Nick Bailen (HC Traktor, KHL), Stepan Falkovsky, Dmitry Znakharenko, Ilya Shinkevich, Ilya Solovyov, Vladislav Yeremenko (all HC Dinamo Minsk, KHL), Yevgeny Lisovets, Dmitry Korobov (both – HC Salavat Yulaev, KHL), and Kristian Henkel (HC Ak Bars, KHL).

forwards: Egor Sharangovich (New Jersey Devils, NHL), Andrei Belevich (HC Torpedo, KHL), Geoff Platt (HC Salavat Yulaev, KHL), Artem Demkov (HC Dinamo Minsk, KHL), Francis Pare, Nikita Komarov (both – HC Avangard, KHL), Shane Prince (HC Avtomobilist, KHL), Vladislav Kodola (HC Severstal, KHL), Sergei Kostistyn (Bratislava Capitals, Slovakia, ICEHL), German Nesterov (HC Gomel), Sergei Drozd, Stanislav Lopachuk, Mikhail Stefanovich (all – HC Yunost Minsk), and Danila Klimovich (2003, Minskiye Zubry, Supreme League).

Belarus will play the preliminary matches in Group A at the Olympic Sport Center.

Belarus will face Slovakia on 21 May, Sweden on 23 May, the Czech Republic on 24 May, the UK on 26 May, Denmark on 28 May, Switzerland on 30 May, and Russia on 1 June. Four best teams will advance into the quarterfinals.

Group B at Arena Riga will feature Canada, Finland, the USA, Germany, Latvia, Norway, Italy, and Kazakhstan.
