Belarus' Maryia Shkanava clinches second gold at Russian Alpine Skiing Cup

MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) – The fifth stage of the Russian Alpine Skiing Cup in Kusa, Chelyabinsk Oblast featured athletes from Belarus, BelTA has learned.

The program of the event in Kusa wrapped up with men's and women's slalom competitions. Maryia Shkanava claimed gold for the second day in a row. The day before the Belarusian was only six tenths of a second ahead of her rivals. In the second event Shkanava's advantage over runner-up Vitalina Girina from Russia was almost 2.5 seconds. Third-placed Yekaterina Tkachenko from Moscow lost 3.5 seconds to the Belarusian.

The victory was the fifth one for the Belarusian skier in six classic slaloms of the current season of the Russian Cup. Maryia Shkanava also clinched silver and bronze medals. The next stage will take place in Vorobyovy Gory in Moscow on 24 December.
