Belarus lose to Sweden at 2021 Ice Hockey U18 World Championship

MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – Belarus lost to Sweden 1-5 at the start of the 2021 Ice Hockey U18 World Championship, BelTA has learned.

The Swedes used their superior speed and skill in the early going, which created the game's first power play, and the team converted. Isak Rosen let go a perfect one-timer from the top of the right faceoff circle after a nice set-up from Anton Olsson, blowing the puck past Zhigalov at 5:00.

Sweden went ahead 2-0 early in the second on a sensational rush by Fabian Lysell, who finished with a backhand over Zhigalov's glove in the 22nd minute.

On the ensuing power play, Danila Klimovich's one-timer from the top of the left faceoff circle found the net, giving Belarus its first goal of this U18 in the 28th minute of the game.

Later the Swedes went ahead by three more, through the efforts of Arvid Eljas, Ludwig Persson and Victor Sjoholm.

Belarus will next play Switzerland on 28 April.
