MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – An agreement has been reached to set up a Belarusian fan zone on the island of Hokkaido during the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. This will be at least the fourth location to watch the performance of the Belarusian athletes and get familiar with the culture and traditions of the country, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Japan.
The agreement on the fan zone was reached at a meeting between Belarus' Ambassador to Japan Ruslan Yesin and Noboribetsu Mayor Haruichi Ogasawara. The island of Hokkaido will host the Olympic marathon and race-walking competitions.
“Apart from the opportunity to watch Belarusian athletes in action, visitors of the fan zone will be invited to see a photo exhibition about Belarus, significant bilateral events, history and achievements of Belarusian Olympians. The photo exhibition will be developed by the Belarusian news agency BelTA jointly with the Belarusian embassy in Japan. The fan zone will also be used to showcase products of Belarusian exporters and offer to taste dishes and drinks of the Belarusian cuisine,” representatives of the diplomatic mission said.
As BelTA reported earlier, the embassy reached agreements to set up Belarusian fan zones in the cities of Tachikawa, Shiroishi, and also in Tokyo (in Minsk restaurant).
A total of 278 Belarusian athletes are preparing for the 2020 Olympics in 28 sports. The Olympic qualifications in some sports will finish in June. The Summer Olympic Games will take place in Tokyo from 24 July to 9 August 2020. A total of 339 medal events will be held in 33 sports.
