Belarus end 2020 Men's EHF EURO campaign with a draw

MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – Belarus drew with Austria 36-36 to wrap up the 2020 European Men's Handball Championship on 22 January, BelTA has learned.

Belarus led throughout the game, but allowed the rivals to fight back for a draw. Mikita Vailupau led the team with 12 goals.

In the first group stage, Yuri Shevtsov's men defeated Serbia 35-30 and Montenegro 36-27, and lost to Croatia 23-31. In the main round Belarus beat the Czech Republic 28-25 and lost to Germany 23-31 and Spain 28-37.

Elsewhere, Croatia and Spain also played in a draw, 22-22, Germany took a win over the Czech Republic.

The Group 1 standings are as follows: Spain – 9 points, Croatia – 9, Germany – 4, Austria – 3, Belarus – 3, the Czech Republic – 0. Croatia and Spain have progressed to the semifinals.

The semifinal matches (24 January) and medal games (25 January) are scheduled to take place in Stockholm, Sweden.
