Belarus clinch gold, bronze medals at Bocskai Istvan Memorial in Hungary

MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian athletes won gold and bronze medals at the Bocskai Istvan Memorial International Boxing Tournament which took place in Debrecen, Hungary on 2-8 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Boxing Federation.

Dzmitry Asanau (63kg) defeated Kazakhstan's Sanatali Toltayev in the opener. The Belarusian then beat Treasure Moremi of Botswana. Dzmitry Asanau did not have to fight in the semifinal as his opponent withdrew. In the gold medal bout the Belarusian proved stronger than Hungary's Richard Kovacs.

Alla Staradub of Belarus secured bronze in the women's 60kg event.

Competing at the 64th Bocskai Istvan Memorial International Boxing Tournament were about 270 athletes from 33 countries.

Belarusian athletes used the competitions as a warm-up ahead of the Olympic qualifiers. The European Olympic Qualifying Tournament will take place in London on 13-23 March. The World Olympic Qualifying Tournament is due in Paris on 13-24 May.
