Belarus beat San Marino, reach UEFA Nations League playoff

MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – Belarus blanked San Marino 2-0 to reach the UEFA Nations League playoff, BelTA has learned.

Belarus earned promotion with a convincing performance in Serravalle. The visitors dominated possession and created numerous chances, two of which were taken either side of the interval by Stanislav Dragun, his fifth goal in the group, and Anton Saroka.

In the first round of League D Belarus defeated San Marino 5-0. Igor Kriushenko's men were stronger against Luxembourg twice (1-0, 2-0) and drew twice against Moldova 0-0. Belarus is the only team out of 55 Nations League participants to concede no goal in the group stage.

Elsewhere, Moldova and Luxembourg drew 1-1.

League D team standings are as follows: Belarus – 14 points, Luxembourg - 10, Moldova - 9, San Marino – 0.

The first place in the group promoted Belarus to League C. The national team also got an opportunity to continue contention for the UEFA Euro 2020 finals.
