MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian government has approved the state program “Physical Education and Sport” for 2021-2025, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government.
According to the state program, Belarus sport rankings in the unofficial team standings according to the results of the Olympic Games should not go below 25th place. The number of medals at the Olympics, European Games, world and European championships should make up at least 695 in 2021, and at least 715 in 2025.
Officials expect that 26.8% of Belarusians will be engaged in physical culture and sport in 2025. Some 2.37 million people, or 24.8% of the population, do sports today (20.2% in 2015).
Plans are in place to upgrade some 40 sport zones in courtyards annually from 2021 to 2024, and 43 in 2025.
The state program provides for the construction and reconstruction of a number of facilities, given necessary funds are attracted.
For example, there are plans to build a new ice arena, an outdoor bicycle track, an indoor hockey gym in Brest, tennis courts, a gym, a swimming pool, an indoor ice training facility in Vitebsk. Tennis courts and a universal competitive sports center will be opened in Grodno, and an indoor ice rink in Ostrovets. Plans are in place build a multi-purpose fitness center in the agro-town of Mikhailovichi, new fitness centers in Dzerzhinsk, Fanipol, Stariye Dorogi, Uzda, Nesvizh, Krupki and other cities.
A stadium for the Children and Youth Olympic Artistic Gymnastics and Acrobatics School will be built in Minsk. The indoor tennis courts of the Belarusian capital will be reconstructed. There are plans to upgrade the water-skiing base of the National Children and Youth Olympic Reserve School on the river Ptich in the village of Volchkovichi. The state program also envisages the construction of a hotel with a swimming pool in the Staiki sport center and a typical modular pool near Chizhovka-Arena.
The state program also envisages the reconstruction of the Dinamo sport center on Daumana Street in Minsk, running tracks in the Brest track and field arena and Children and Youth Sports Olympic Reserve School No.2 in Baranovichi. Plans also include reconstruction of the stadiums in Pinsk, Shumilino, Novopolotsk and Gantsevichy District, sport complexes in Glubokoye, Miory and Postavy, Chashniki and Orsha, and the martial arts hall in Postavy.
The total amount of financing of the state program exceeds Br3.8 billion. The funds of the national budget will amount to Br1.26 billion, local budgets - Br2.1 billion.
