Belarus able to reach top eight at FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2018

MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) – Belarus is capable of making it into the top eight at the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 in Minsk, First Deputy Head of Belarus' President Administration, Chairman of the Belarusian Basketball Federation Maksim Ryzhenkov said during the tournament's drawing ceremony on 6 March, BelTA informs.

According to the head of the federation, the country has all the necessary infrastructure to host the championship. “The country's two arenas, namely the Palace of Sports and Falcon Club, will host the competitions. The centers have hosted basketball competitions before. They are ready for the tournament. The Belarusian Basketball Federation, coaches and players will try to do their best for our team to achieve great results. Looking at the results of the drawing ceremony, I can say that Belarus is able to compete for the place in the top eight,” Maksim Ryzhenkov said. He invited fans to come and cheer up the national team.

“Minsk has played host to many international competitions before. For sport fans the forthcoming world championship is another opportunity to see the world's leading teams in action. The city is ready to welcome guests,” Minsk Vice Mayor Igor Yurkevich said.

FIBA Sport and Competitions Manager Ashley Green stressed that Belarus has proved to be one of the strongest basketball women's teams. “I am confident that it will be an excellent tournament in Minsk in July,” he said.

The FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 will take place in Minsk on 21-29 July. In the qualifying round Belarus will face France, Japan and Colombia.
