MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – The management and players of HC Jokerit Helsinki received numerous threats ahead of the match against HC Dinamo Minsk with the purpose of disrupting the game, Director General of HC Dinamo Minsk Dmitry Baskov said in an interview to the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“After seeing the calls on some Telegram channels to do everything possible to disrupt HC Dinamo Minsk's opening match of the new KHL season, I realized that there would be some kind of an attack, because internet accounts of HC Jokerit players were mentioned there. I called the management of the Finnish hockey club. They confirmed there were many threats against both hockey players and the management. It was also said that the decision whether to go to Minsk or not would be taken after the meeting,” the director general of HC Dinamo Minsk commented on the situation.
The match between the Belarusian and Finnish teams was to be played at Minsk Arena on 3 September. However, the Helsinki team did not travel to the Belarusian capital. HC Jokerit was awarded a technical defeat.
